PowerColor Radeon RX 6700 XT Hellhound Review

The Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU is interesting as it is the first one off the Navi 22 production line that encompasses a smaller die. 

Performance numbers reveal it is up to 30 per cent faster than the last-gen RX 5700 XT, which is telling as resolution creeps up to QHD and UHD. 

More importantly for AMD's aspirations, it is also 20-25 per cent or so faster than a flagship GeForce RTX 1080 Ti from a few years ago, making RX 6700 XT a good option for those that want a bit more performance. an extra 50 per cent framebuffer, and some hardware-based ray tracing ability.

PowerColor's Hellhound is a good example of Radeon RX 6700 XT technology. It's well-built, restrained in terms of the company's usual overt design strategy and card size, and both cool and very quiet under load. Coil whine is only noticeable during high-framerate menu screens, which is normal these days.

Understanding that Hellhound is the base, non-reference model, there isn't much more PowerColor can do to improve the card further. Perhaps a minor out-the-box overclock is needed to separate it from the Made By AMD boards, but that's about it.

It's a real shame that stock is in such constraint, meaning we have no concrete pricing information or availability. Should it appear at around $499 (£449) any time soon, it's a safe buy for those who want a quality card that fulfils its high-framerate QHD remit well.
